Message for Málaga

Málaga, you are mah-velous 

My favorite memory is walking a beach. And I can only imagine the vibe with warmer weather - it’d be awesome

The downside of my visit with you was the weather… it rained most of the time. (Not as severe as Valencia; for which I am still thoughtful). Laura and I booked a same-day covered Tuk tuk tour. Our guide shared sweet views of your port, the last active bullfighting ring in Spain, and even Antonio Bandera’s house. Lol  

Your Alcazaba was fantastic to see.  This is a Moorish fortress that dates back to the 11th century; the architecture was simply amazing.  And the positioning, on a hilltop overlooking the city, port and coastline, placed it in a perfect defensive position

Your “one-armed” cathedral, or “La Manquita”, is beautiful.  It has one tower, hence the ‘one-arm’ connotation.  Exploring old cathedrals in Spain was one of my favorite parts of my trip – they are chock full of symbolism, love, depth, and grace.  The history and the stories hang heavy in the air, like a blanket of meaning that slowly covers your shoulders, warming, after you walk inside.  I like to sit in a pew, look around at people praying, breathe it all in, and cry a bit.  This is my favorite part of visiting cathedrals and churches in Europe – I’ll do it again and again. Just show me an old church:  I. Am. There.    

Thank you for sharing delicious food!  Laura and I found grilled veggies at Julia Restaurant and met an extraordinary couple from Amsterdam- we stayed for an extra hour, sharing wine (thank you, Milli) and stories. Málaga, eres mah-ra-villosa.

Mi recuerdo favorito es caminar por una playa. Y solo puedo imaginar la vibra con un clima más cálido; sería increíble.

La desventaja de mi visita contigo fue el clima… llovió la mayor parte del tiempo (aunque no tan severo como en Valencia, por lo cual sigo siendo reflexiva). Laura y yo reservamos un tour en tuk-tuk cubierto el mismo día. Nuestro guía nos mostró unas vistas hermosas de tu puerto, la última plaza de toros activa en España, e incluso la casa de Antonio Banderas. Jaja.

Tu Alcazaba fue fantástico de ver. Es una fortaleza morisca que data del siglo XI; la arquitectura era simplemente asombrosa. Y su posición, en la cima de una colina con vistas a la ciudad, el puerto y la costa, la colocaba en una posición defensiva perfecta.

Tu catedral “manco” o “La Manquita” es hermosa. Tiene una sola torre, de ahí la connotación de “manco.” Explorar las catedrales antiguas en España fue una de mis partes favoritas de mi viaje: están llenas de simbolismo, amor, profundidad y gracia. La historia y las historias flotan pesadamente en el aire, como una manta de significado que lentamente te cubre los hombros, calentándote, después de entrar. Me gusta sentarme en un banco, mirar a las personas rezando, respirar todo eso, y llorar un poco. Esta es mi parte favorita de visitar catedrales e iglesias en Europa – lo haré una y otra vez. Solo muéstrame una iglesia antigua: Yo. Estoy. Ahí.

Laura y yo encontramos verduras a la parrilla en el Restaurante Julia y conocimos a una pareja extraordinaria de Ámsterdam; nos quedamos una hora más, compartiendo vino (gracias, Milli) e historias.
